Λίγο μετά την ανακοίνωση των βάσεων, ξεκινά και η αναζήτηση στέγης, με τους φοιτητές να έρχονται αντιμέτωποι με τσουχτερές τιμές.Από τα στοιχεία που επεξεργάστηκε το Πανελλαδικό Δίκτυο E-Real Estates,προκύπτει το φαινόμενο της βραχυχρόνιας μίσθωσης έχει αλλάξει τον χάρτη των ενοικίων ειδικότερα σε Αθήνα, Θεσσαλονίκη, Πάτρα, Κέρκυρα και Χανιά.Για παράδειγμα, για τις περιοχές του κέντρου των Αθηνών, οι κατοικίες άνω του 1ου ορόφου έως 50 τ.μ., που διατίθενται με ζητούμενο μίσθωμα έως 300 ευρώ, αποτελούν μόλις το 12,47% (κυρίως γκαρσονιέρες 21 τ.μ. – 30 τ.μ.) επί του συνόλου των διαθέσιμων προς μίσθωση κατοικιών άνω του 1ου ορόφου έως 50 τ.μ. Δηλαδή, 1 στις 10 κατοικίες κατάλληλες για φοιτητές διατίθενται με μίσθωμα έως 300 ευρώ στην Αθήνα.
